Celebrating a Milestone: Reflecting on Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
March 2026 was a month of profound impact for the Maimurna Hope Foundation for Cancer and Ostomy Care. To mark Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we took our mission to the heart of our communities, hosting successful “Blue Hat and Bow Tie” awareness programs in both Abuja and Gombe State.
Bringing Awareness to Abuja and Gombe
Our teams were active on the ground, engaging with the public at two key locations:
Abuja: We held a powerful session at COCIN Asokoro, where we connected with the congregation to share vital information on prevention and care.
Gombe State: Our advocacy reached ECWA Goodnews, Federal Low-Cost, spreading the message of hope and early detection to a wide audience.
A Journey of Survival and Service
These events were deeply personal. Our foundation was born from the survival journey of our founder, a colon cancer survivor who now lives with a permanent colostomy. Her story of resilience serves as a beacon of HOPE, driving our commitment to ensure that no one faces these challenges alone.
Our Impact in Action
During these programs, we focused on our core objectives:
Education: We provided critical awareness on colorectal cancer prevention and the specialized requirements of ostomy care.
Support: We offered emotional and practical guidance to individuals and families currently navigating cancer diagnoses.
Advocacy: We continued our push for better health policies and improved access to essential medical supplies and consumables.
Let’s Work Together
The success of these outreaches in Abuja and Gombe is just the beginning. We remain dedicated to building lasting support systems through partnerships with hospitals and fellow NGOs.
